At the end of 2024, we celebrated the 90th birthday of our beloved school building, The Old Fire Station on Bethel Street. The station was originally opened in 1934 by Lord Mayor, Fred Jex; and it was in service to the city of Norwich through World War II and the Millenium until being converted into our sixth form.

The incredible 90th year milestone was celebrated at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form, inviting firefighters who called the Old Fire Station their home, back to the sixth form (pictured above).

Over the years many generations of firefighters rose the ranks inside the fire station, with the building in use until 2011, when the new Carrow Fire Station opened just outside of Trowse, with easy access to the A47.

Throughout the day of celebration, students and staff could speak to retired firefighter Colin who generously shared his impressive collection of fireman hats and uniforms. The display showcased the evolution of firefighting attire, spanning from the 1930s to the present day.

It was truly inspiring to hear from Colin and our other visitors about their life in the Old Fire Station, stories from their careers and the love they share with us for our building.
