F24 Greenpower Race Day
Students and staff at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form have been working hard this year to prepare for the F24 Greenpower race that took place at the Lotus Test Track at Hethel last month.
The team have been working in their free time to put together a great vehicle that performed incredibly well on race day, considering the team were up against engineering departments of universities, and all of their funding and equipment!
The team consists of 20 students, keen to take on and develop an engineering project of their own, on race day, the team consisted of: Nina, Ruben, Caitlin, Charlie, Rose, Max, Larry, Charles and George (in added photo order!) and were supported by Mr Drake and Dr North from Sir Isaac Newton.
Both Dr North and Mr Drake, Teachers of Physics said:
“The team has worked incredibly hard over the last 8 months to fundraise, build, develop and maintain this engineering project. To hit the middle of the pack on our first-ever race, with no mechanical issues throughout is an incredible achievement of which all the team should be proud. We’re looking forward to having some of the team back next year in guidance roles for the new batch of year 12’s who will be taking the reins (or wheel!) of the car next Autumn.”
On race day the team travelled down to the Lotus Test Track and were excited to get racing. With a long day ahead, the team breezed through scrutineering, only needing to make small adjustments before being ready for the track! Nina, Caitlin, Charlie, Max and George were all very keen to get out on track, and the team made sure everyone had a great opportunity to go racing. Unfortunately, we did lose our transponder during a pitstop, meaning we lost some lap data towards the end of the race, but to reach 11 laps on our first outing is a very impressive feat, and a target to beat at future races, and in future years back at the Lotus Test track.
A big thanks to all of our sponsors, for helping us with funding and the base material of the car, including: Conway Decorators, TML Precision Engineering, Norfolk Renewable Installations, Nicholsons, Wensum Print, and Ben Burgess.
